Geoffrey Styles is an exciting and passionate Conductor. Refusing to be identified with a single musical category, Geoffrey is experienced in all the musical genres ranging from Classical Ballet and Opera to Film scores, from Educational projects to Symphonic Classics, and is equally at home in the opera pit and on the concert platform.

In recent seasons he has worked with such diverse artists as Stacey Kent (Monte Carlo Jazz Festival), Jane Birkin (“Gainsbourg Symphonique” World Tour at Carnegie Hall NYC, the Barbican Centre London, Orchestre Philharmoniques de Radio France and l’Ile de France in Paris, Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège in Brussels), as well as giving the World Première of a new piece for narrator and orchestra by Richard Birchall with the prestigious Philharmonia Orchestra in London, and opening the first International Congress for Film Music and Media with the Real Filharmonia de Galicia in Santiago de Compostela. Classic film music with Renaud Capuçon and the Lamoureux Orchestra at the Olympia in Paris, concert which has been broadcast several times on national television and released on dvd by Warner, and at the Festival de Paques with the Orchestra of the Opéra de Lyon, also broadcast live on national radio, and several series of family/educational programmes with Alasdair Malloy and the Orchestre National d’Auvergne, with whom he was also Artist in residence in 2021.

Geoffrey has Conducted numerous programmes in concert with the  Philharmonique de Monte Carlo, the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, as well as the Orchestra of Opera North, the Oxford Philomusica and the prestigious Hallé Orchestra in the United Kingdom (family/educational themed programmes with Alasdair Malloy). The Philharmonique de Strasbourg (New Year’s concerts), Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine (see below), Orchestre National de France (Ciné-Fiction concerts with actors and orchestra).

 In the pit he has directed the Royal Danish Orchestra and Aalborg Symphony for the Royal Danish Ballet (the Golden Cockerel, les Sylphides, Etudes, Theme and variations,  Dans2go), the Orchestra Sao Carlos in Lisbon (Giselle and Dido and Aeneas) and the Orchestra of la Fenice in Venice (Coppélia, filmed by the Arts Channel “Mezzo”) as well as a dazzling “l’Elisir d’Amore” for the Teatro Gayarre in Pamplona and “Carmen” for the Festival “Les Voix du Lyrique” in Marseille and Toulon.

Geoffrey has a privileged relationship with the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine, for whom he served as Associate Conductor for over ten years, working with Maestros such as: Steuart Bedford, Maurizio Benini, Harry Bicket, Paul Daniel, Jonathan Darlington, Jane Glover, Hans Graf, Armin Jordan, Alain Lombard, Sir Neville Marriner, Michel Plasson, Gennadi Rozdezventsky, Yutaka Sado, Patrick Summers, Klaus Weise.

 Some highlights are: “the Gold Rush” (film and symphonic score by Charlie Chaplin), “Styx” by Kancheli with Yuri Bashmet as soloist, “Nutcracker”, “Sleeping Beauty”, “Petrushka” and “the Rite of Spring” for the Ballets Russes, Messager’s “l’Amour Masqué” for the Opéra National de Bordeaux or the World Premières of Christian Lauba’s Ballet “Zatoïchi”, choreographed by Carlotta Ikeda.

Geoffrey started his musical training as a chorister, before winning the Organ Scholarship at Westminster Abbey, and subsequently read Music at the University of Oxford, as Organ Scholar at Christ church. After two years as Repetiteur at the Opéra National de Paris, Geoffrey was invited by Alain Lombard to join the staff of the Grand-Théâtre de Bordeaux as Assistant Chorus-Master, a position that he held until 2002. In September 2002, he was appointed Associate Conductor for the Opéra National de Bordeaux. He has been a freelance Conductor since 2013.
